Run for Charlotte Road Race

#FeatureFriday: Run for Charlotte Road Race
Run for Charlotte

In June 2009 Charlotte Rose Kelly was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma at the age of 2 and bravely fought the disease through extensive treatments.  Unfortunately, Charlotte lost her battle in December 2011.  Prayers for Charlotte has continued to hold the Run for Charlotte Road Race annually since 2011 in her honor.  This past year, the race was held on April 24, 2016.

The race consisted of a 5K walk, a 10K run and a 5K run.  The race began at 10 A.M. and took place at the Bayshore Athletic Club in Braintree, Massachusetts.  After the run, there was a complimentary lunch, free activities for children and a silent auction.  Minion and Cinderella characters were also at the event.  Musician, Jim Plunkett led the post-race celebration.  The race and all of its activities provided all in attendance with something fun to do throughout the day.

Prayers for Charlotte is a 100% volunteer organization and all proceeds that they raise go to neuroblastoma research and aiding families that are fighting cancer.  It is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  Neuroblastoma is an extremely rare disease with only about 650 new cases in the United States each year.  Due to it being so rare, not a lot of money has been raised to combat it.  This organization is one of the few that focuses on neuroblastoma and they have worked diligently to help those in need.

Once again, our tents and other rental items were present at this event.   This race is definitely one to be a part of and we are happy that we were able to participate at such a great event for another successful year.  If you want to check out Prayers for Charlotte, are thinking about getting involved in future events at this organization, or would like to donate then head on over to their website.
