#FeatureFriday: Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2016

On June 25, 2016 over 2000 bike riders departed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in Quincy, Massachusetts for a two day journey in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  The ride ended in Provincetown, Massachusetts on June 26, 2016.  The participants of Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2016 raised money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  The money raised will fund research geared towards stopping the progression of Multiple Sclerosis, restoring lost function and eventually ending Multiple Sclerosis forever.  These funds will also support programs and services which help people affected by Multiple Sclerosis to continue living their best lives.

Multiple Sclerosis is a debilitating disease that affects the Central Nervous System, disrupting communication between the brain and the rest of the body.   Symptoms can range from numbness to paralysis.  It affects approximately 2.3 million people worldwide.   Supporting the fight against Multiple Sclerosis is a benefit all on its own.

The Bike MS: Cape Cod Getaway 2016 is the largest MS ride in New England.  Each rider had to bring their own bike, helmet, flat change kit which included a tube, tire levers, a pump/CO2, etc., and they also had to be prepared to ride one to two hours in a group setting.  On Saturday, June 25 registration opened bright and early at 5:30 A.M. and the ride began at 7:30 A.M.  The ride ended at 4 P.M. that day.  Day one stopped at Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Bourne, Massachusetts where there was music, food and beer for those of the legal drinking age.

Riders were given accommodations at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday night.  A shuttle service was also provided to various local hotels and motels if the participant preferred to stay elsewhere.

The ride began again at 7:30 A.M. on Sunday, June 26 and concluded at 2:30 P.M.  At the end of the ride on Sunday riders ate, socialized and cleaned up before heading back into Boston.  A ferry ride and air-conditioned coach buses were available for participants to get back to the starting location.  We provided tents and other rental items for this event.  It is always an honor to participate in events that support this great cause.
