#FeatureFriday: empowerHER Beach Soiree
empowerHER held their first Beach Soiree at the Bulman Marine in Scituate, Massachusetts on September 22. This nonprofit organization supports young girls who have experienced the early loss of their mothers. The Soiree was a sold out event that raised over $80,000 through event sponsorship, ticket sales and onsite fundraising. The event’s proceeds will help ensure that all of the programs will remain at no charge to the family and will allow for empowerHER to serve even more girls in 2017.
empowerHER’s mission is to empower young girls who have experienced the early loss of their mothers and offers two types of programming for the girls and their families. empowerHER offers group outings and activities with other girls who can relate to their loss to help reduce some of the isolation the girls may feel in their own communities and remind them they are not alone in their grief. empowerHER’s signature event, the Mother’s Day Retreat takes place each year at Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Plymouth and the weekend away gives the girls a chance to come together, laugh, connect, and celebrate their own mothers.
During the event local steel drum band, Steel Rhythm performed. There was also a whiskey tasting hosted by Boston Harbor Distillery and a waterfront raw bar donated by Mullaney’s Fish Market. The master of ceremonies for the evening was local actress Erica McDermott (The Fighter, Black Mass, American Hustle). Guests could participate in silent and live auctions through the event. Those who have benefitted from the organization’s Mentor Program spoke at the event and informed those in attendance of what the organization has done to help them personally.
Miss the event but still want to donate something to the cause? You can help by serving as a mentor, on a planning committee or help raise funds to keep the program going.
The empowerHER Mentor Program pairs young girls with positive female role models from the community. This mentor match can be made with a new friend or the match opportunity may be used to pair the young girl with a woman in their life, such as an aunt, family friend, former teacher, etc. This mentorship is a year-long commitment between the mentee and her family. The mentor commits to spending at least 5 hours per month with her mentee for a 12-month period. empowerHER helps to strengthen the relationship between the mentor and mentee by ensuring they are positive and productive. Examples of activities that mentor-mentee may partake include beach outings, exercise classes, shopping for the necessities or even helping with milestone moments such as school dances, difficult times around the holidays, and more.
At empowerHER, the girls are reminded of the beautiful life at their fingertips and help them to know they are not alone. For more information about empowerHER and how you can get involved, please visit www.empoweringher.org.
We could not be any happier that EmpowerHer selected B.C. Tent and Awning to provide the rentals for their event. This organization has great importance to the community and it is great that they were able to raise over $80,000 to continue supporting these young girls.
For this event we provided multiple tents for the event, flooring and a stage. Once everything was set up it looked beautiful. The event was a perfectly elegant, classy affair that was enjoyable for all in attendance.
