#WeddingWednesday: The Sweetheart Table
Traditionally the bride and groom sit at a head table alongside the rest of the wedding party on their wedding day. In recent times this is not the case. The bride and groom are more commonly seated at their own smaller, more intimate table these days. This gives them the opportunity to take in the moment and enjoy their first dinner together as husband and wife in a romantic and personal setting. The table is formally called the sweetheart table. Although it may not be nearly as large as the head table would be, it can still be decorated as much as the bride and groom choose. Here are some beautiful and elegant ideas to include when decorating the sweetheart table.
If you want to add a romantic touch to your sweetheart table, use candles. This couple decorated their sweetheart table with floating candles of different heights along with a floral arrangement in the center. They also put lanterns with candles inside at the base of their table to complete the romantic look from top to bottom.
Simplicity is key for this couple. They put one floral arrangement on the table but upgraded the linen to have a gold overlay so the table continues to dazzle their guests.
You probably already know that getting married is often referred to as “tying the knot.” This couple took that saying to the next level and hung a tied knot across the table, symbolizing their new marriage. They also added a garland made of baby’s breath, two small flower arrangements and an ampersand sign on top of the table. Also, they chose to have a backdrop of two doors with a floral arrangement lying on top of them and a chandelier hanging from the arrangement. Clearly this couple wanted to add both a humorous and elegant touch to their sweetheart table and executed it with perfection.
Another decoration option for your sweetheart table is to put freestanding wooden letters that say “Mr. & Mrs.” on your table. This couple did that and more. They also added petals, placing them around the letters as well as floral arrangements. Candles were added to add a subtle, romantic glow to the decor.
Backdrops can add a grandiose element to your sweetheart table. You can use one if perhaps the original background is not ideal or if you want something that better reflects you as a couple. This couple added a multitude of flowers to add a beautiful touch to their display.
Cozy up to your new spouse by using a love seat as your seats for the reception. Decorate your chair(s) with signage with a favorite quote or the common “Mr. and Mrs.” on it to add that extra touch.
One easy and budget friendly way to decorate your sweetheart table is to lay your bridesmaids bouquets on top of the table and either lay your bouquet in the middle or put it in a vase in the center. Not only will this save you money but it looks pretty too!
