#WeddingWednesday: Creating a Snapchat Geo Filter
First launched in 2011, Snapchat has grown to immense popularity. Now, if you have a smart phone there is a good chance that you have the app on your phone. By now, you have probably noticed that there are different filters depending on what town or city you are in. As I am writing this in Avon, Massachusetts I currently see a “Braintree” filter on my Snapchat. The reason that I am currently seeing this filter is due to a Geo Filter which can tell that I am currently two towns away from Braintree, Massachusetts. Did you know that you can use this kind of technology for your wedding?
If you want to embrace technology at your wedding, you can easily do so by creating your own Snapchat Geo Filter. The Geo Filter will cost at least five dollars depending on the length and width of the area you choose. It will also depend on how long you want the Snapchat Geo Filter to be up. Though it’s something that you’ll have to include in your budget, it will create an interactive experience for your guests. It will also help to keep your guests’ focus on your wedding as they will be taking photos using your filter.
To create your Geo Filter you will first need to go to the Snapchat website and login. You can then upload an image that will be used as your Snapchat Geo Filter. The image should be 1920 x 1800. The image should also be less than 300 KB and saved as a PNG format with a transparent background. Ensure that it is something that is relevant to your wedding but does not include anything too personal that you wouldn’t want strangers to see. Anyone in the area that you choose will have the filter included in their Snapchat filters.
After selecting your filter image you will be asked to choose the dates for the filter. You can choose to have your filter up for at most a month. The longer your filter is up, the more expensive the filter will be.
Next, you will select the area where you want your filter to be accessible from. The Geo Filter must be between 20,000 and 5,000,000 feet. The more space you want your Geo Filter to cover, the more expensive the filter will be. You will also want to make sure that your filter is not too thin in any areas as the location technology may have a more difficult time finding Snapchat users within that area.
Once you have selected the image, dates, and area for your filter you must checkout. The filter will then go through the review process. If it is rejected you can go back and alter it to better fit their requirements.
Check out the submission guidelines for creating your Snapchat Geo Filter prior to submitting your filter. This will provide you with all the information you need and all the rules to follow when creating your filter.
A filter can provide a great interactive environment at your wedding for all of your guests. The world uses technology nonstop everyday and it is now a constant in society. You may check your phone and find some great, memorable photos that you will cherish forever, all with your personalized filter on it.
