#FeatureFriday: Town of Avon Holiday Celebration 2016
Looking for a way to celebrate the holiday season? The Town of Avon will be holding their Annual Holiday Celebration on Sunday, December 11 from noon until 5 P.M. at DeMarco Park. This is the perfect event to celebrate the holiday with the whole family. All events are free to attend and refreshments will be available for purchase.
From noon to 4 P.M. there will be Horse and Carriage rides departing from Saint Michael’s Church. There will also be Children’s Amusement rides which include a carousel and mini Ferris Wheel. During this time be sure to support the Avon High School Senior class by purchasing hot cocoa in the warming tent. You will also get the opportunity to watch a live Ice Sculpture demonstration.
From 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. the Robbins Museum, located at 188 Main Street will be open for tours. Step into the home of Captain Sam Robbins and learn more about the history of Avon.
At 1:30 P.M. the Dance Workshop Company Dancers will perform. Come support the dancers and enjoy and great performance.
Santa will arrive at 2 P.M. and will remain there until 4 P.M. for photos. Be sure to bring your own camera so you can keep the memory of your festive experience forever and have a great photo for your Christmas card!
The Lighting of DeMarco Park and holiday singing will be at 4:45 P.M. This is the headlining event of the day so make sure you don’t miss out! DeMarco Park will turn into a beautiful winter wonderland and the whole family will enjoy the feeling of the holiday spirit.
Throughout the entirety of the event there will be a Gingerbread House Contest at Saint Michael’s Church hall. Enjoy the smell of gingerbread as you walk into the hall and check out all of the gingerbread masterpieces inside!
The Avon Baptist Church will also be joining in on the fun! On Saturday, December 10 at 4:30 P.M. the church will host a Ham and Bean Supper. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. On Sunday, December 11 from 1 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. kids will be able to make their own ornament at Santa’s Workshop at the church. From 2:30 P.M. to 3:30 P.M. there will be a Sing-a-Long Piano Concert followed by hot cocoa and cookies for all to enjoy.
Put your holiday decorating skills to the test by entering your decorated home into the House Decorating Contest. Judging will take place on Saturday, December 17 during the evening. If you’re interested in entering send your name, address and phone number to Avon Civic Assoc., POB 553, Avon, MA 02322. You can also enter by checking out the town website or emailing avoncivicassoc@yahoo.com.
This year, as in years past, we will be providing rental items for the event including a 20’x30’ frame tent and our brown samsonite chairs. We love being able to share in the holiday spirit with the Avon community and look forward to this year’s event. Be sure to check out the Avon Holiday Celebration with the whole family!
