#WeddingWednesday: Including Your Family in the Wedding Planning Process
Planning your wedding is no easy task but luckily you have some great family members around to help you. How should they help in the planning process though? You may want complete control over your wedding but it doesn’t hurt to ask for help. Knowing who to ask for the right kind of help will be the biggest help when planning your wedding.
Specific tasks sometimes work for specific family members. Your mother could be extremely helpful throughout the entirety of the process. She can play a role similar to the Maid of Honor where she helps with each step in the planning process from choosing the theme to choosing your accessories for the big day to assisting with the day of coordination. Your father can help with a majority of the paper work. You can also have him help you choose the song for the father-daughter dance or have him choose it himself and surprise you at the reception! Both of your parents want to make your day as special as possible. They would love to help as much as they can. Just giving them a project to do for the wedding would make them happy. You can take them on trips to certain vendors to make them feel included. Don’t forget they may want to have a say in what is chosen so be sure to bring them on the trips that you have less of a preference on so their opinions would be useful in this case. Your parents have gotten married before and will have experiences that they can draw on to help you. Ask for their advice if you run into any problems or have questions. They will have good, knowledgeable answers and it will give you a different perspective.
Your sister would be perfect in a bridesmaid role. She can help with the bachelorette party if she is old enough, the bridal shower, choosing the dress, and other bridal details. Your brother should have more of a hands-on role. He can also put together specific projects that best fit his skill set. This could include things like building the centerpieces that will therefore fit your budget more effectively. If you are comfortable enough with your mother-in-law then you could include her in various projects such as designing the décor or dress shopping. Your father-in-law will be extremely useful in ensuring that the groom and groomsmen do all of their required tasks. He can help pick out their tuxes, making sure they do what they are supposed to in a timely fashion. This makes it so there is less to worry about leading up to the wedding. Your sister-in-law could help with the bridal shower, bachelorette party and other details that will make your day amazing. Your brother-in-law would be great in helping with bachelor party planning. All grandparents would be an excellent help with the registry by making suggestions. Anyone else in the family can also join in on any of the projects throughout the planning process from getting those invites out to helping with the do-it-yourself décor. Everyone will want to be able to do their part to help you reduce the stress of the wedding planning process. Don’t be afraid to ask them for help.
All of the family members in your life that are married have experience in planning their weddings. It’s the perfect time to ask about their wedding planning experiences and romantic stories is while you are planning your own romantic wedding. Experience is always a great thing to have. Having a planning team made up of people who love you and have great experiences to share is nothing but beneficial during the wedding planning process.
Don’t forget to thank your parents in some way after the wedding. Whether it be leaving a gift, a special, personal letter or both, make sure that it exemplifies how much they mean to you. Thank them for taking care of you and being there for you when you needed them the most.
By asking your family for help and allowing them to take part in the wedding planning process there will therefore be less work that you have to do on your own, less isolation from everyone, a closer bond between your family members, the planning process will be more fun for you and it will help you to have a better perspective on the process as a whole.
