#WeddingWednesday: Outdoor Weddings

When planning a wedding one of the biggest decisions that the engaged couple has to make is where to have their wedding.  So for this #WeddingWednesday we are focusing on having an outdoor wedding.  Being in the tent business we know a thing or two about planning outdoor weddings! Here’s a pole tent that we put up from a beautiful September wedding:

Often times we receive calls from couples debating whether to have their wedding inside a hall or outside in a tent. A lot of people think that having a backyard wedding will automatically make things less expensive for them. We try to tell people that backyard weddings are not necessarily cheaper, but offer more customization. If the wedding is in a hall, most times you are stuck with whatever carpet or wall color they have. With a tent, you have an open canvas that you can decorate any way that you’d like.  Tents provide a great opportunity for couples to make the wedding all about them.

Depending on the season that you choose you can cater the environment to have the perfect outdoor look. In the spring, greenery and flowers outside make the scenery beautiful and adds something to the wedding that an indoor venue can not. If you have a fall wedding the foliage will add beautiful pops of color to your photos and atmosphere. Some couples who love winter also prefer to have a snow covered background to their day (and don’t worry! We CAN install tents and flooring in the snowy months.) Being outdoors also provides some beautiful fresh air where guests can exit the tent without getting too far away from the party.  This venue provides basically everything that an indoor wedding has but more.  This photo shows a high peak pole tent that was decorated with a tent liner, center pole covers, and side pole skirts.

In the photo below is a frame tent which does not have the center poles in the middle.  This tent leaves a bit more room for guests and setup.  The venue, a bit different from the first one is still surrounded by nature but is also outside of the Queset House on the beautifully manicured lawn and gardens. This hidden gem is located in Easton, MA behind the Ames Free Library.

This bride and groom immaculately matched their venue to their decor.  Also, their setup looks regal yet rustic much like the Queset House.  The fabric tent liners provide an airy and romantic feel to the decorations and therefore highlight the romantic location that they are in.

Tents can be placed almost anywhere which is why they are great for almost any occasion.  Look at this tent that goes off the side of a house on a deck that is beach side.  You don’t have to step foot on the sandy beach to feel the cool ocean breeze of a beach wedding!  In this case, the tent was staked to the grass around the deck in order to keep it up.

Tents provide a plethora of options for the couple. The photo below features a clear top tent which is great for the Spring or Fall months. They provide an open air feeling with night time views of the stars. Something to remember about the clear top tents is that they can have a greenhouse effect so be careful when considering this tent in July or August.   As the tent is the venue for the wedding you can choose whatever decor you want in the style that you want.  Also, if it rains on your wedding day you can still enjoy the outdoors without being in direct contact with the rain.  We can put marquee tents up that will connect the different areas for your big day. A marquee tent can connect the main tent to the venue or home to provide coverage from any rain.

Aside from the decor it is important to stay organized when planning a backyard or outdoor wedding. Some things that you may not think of, but definitely need to consider are things like the restroom situation. If you are getting married at Mom & Dad’s house and they only have one bathroom for your 150 guests, you will want to bring in a portable restroom company. There are so many options out there from the standard porta potty to a deluxe portable restroom trailer which offers multiple stalls and air conditioning.

You also want to consider if there is enough parking at the location. If it is an at home wedding you may want to hire a valet parking person to help for guests that may need to park far away if cars will be lining the streets of the neighborhood.

Another thing to consider for a backyard wedding is the food. You will likely bring in a catering company to cook and serve the food. You will want to make sure they have an area to cook and prep the food. Check with the caterer to see what they require for space and what type of area they prefer. They may be able to cook and prep inside the house kitchen (depending on size), or inside your garage. Many times, we provide a separate 20×20 frame tent that will connect right to the main tent for the caterer to work out of.

Have your outdoor wedding and enjoy it.  Enjoy it under the safety of a tent so the rain or hot sun will not bother your guests.  Enjoy the fresh air that you get as you dance the night away.  Also, enjoy the love and happiness that your wedding has to offer and enjoy your life as a couple forevermore.Outdoor Wedding
